The helmet is a single big sheet of cardboard salvaged from a box, cut to size and shape using a straight edge and razor, folded at the back and joined at the top.
Thin metal flashing along all outside edges, with quarter round trim pieces inside, and 1 inch hex head screws through to, and anchored in, that from the outside to keep it together and make it knobby. Cut flashing and trim with miter saw, finished flashing edges with wheel grinder.
Black krylon spraypaint. Two cans. Inside and out.
Black nylon mesh, held in place with industrial strength doublesided tape.
Small cheap black non-powered iPod speakers attached inside, with the cable run down to an 80 gig iPod hidden in the left hollowed out 'pectoral' on the fake-muscle-shirt. Provided ambient sound effects to create a creepy aura if you were close enough.
The big knife-sword was originally made from a single plank from a 6 foot fence, but that shattered the first night because I was swinging it around and being a dumbass. Second one was made from a similarly sized hunk of MDF. Cut with miter saw, sanded for shape and texture, black krylon spraypaint, with a white krylon stripe for the sharp bit.
Add a cheap piece of cotton for the skirt-apron, 30 dollar fake-muscle-shirt, and a $5 liter of fake blood. =]
I wish I had:
- used two layers of the mesh, so as to make it more opaque, to hide my noggin.
- not lost the black nylon pantyhose I cut and used to better hide my noggin.
- put more mesh or some black fabric around the bottom so as to hide the chest area viewable through the mesh.
- figured out some practical way to make myself 6 inches to a foot taller, like with platform boots or short stilts or something.
It was cumbersome as all git out, too much so for the party we were at, but next night at a bar I could totally dance in it given enough room, booze, and music. =]
