Charles Stross

  • Jul. 9th, 2008 at 11:10 PM

Easily one of the best science fiction writers I've ever run across.

For an easily digestible bit, I suggest Rogue Farm from the 'Live without a Net' short story compilation. That's what got me hooked, and got me to hunt more down.

Here's everything:

The local library had a few of his titles. I read Glasshouse first, should have read Accelerando first. Oh well.

I could literally feel my brain grinding down on a regular basis, chewing up clock cycles, as I tried to digest the barrage of ideas and themes wrapped in a mutated crunchy shell of damn good writing.

Absolutely brilliant.
I'll be buying a lot of these for re-reads years hence.

If you like SF, you do yourself a disservice not to ingest some of Stross' work.

That's the only one of his I've read so far, and I agree, good stuff. I'm a game developer and found some of the ideas a bit loopy, but still, very fun.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm always looking for new authors and added Accelerando to my library "to reserve" list!

Guess who surprised me with a visit this morning. Melissa...don't remember who that is? Neither did I until I opened the door a crack to see that it was the crazy bike lady that haunts the garage sales. Remember she tried on Jen's shoes? Wouldn't go away? Won't stop talking? gah I practically had to shut the door in her face -- thank god the baby was here as an excuse. She wanted me to help her price stuff for a garage sale so that she could raise money for a "stake." I have no idea what that means and didn't want to find out. Gah she just doens't shut up! I bet you don't miss her!

Perhaps you should then befriend him: [Bad username: autopope"]

[info]kmo also did an interview with him a few podcasts ago. Should be easy to find in his LJ, which he mostly uses for podcast show notes.
